Grendaโ€™s Shrub Camouflage Hunt

Go outside with a grown-up in the morning or late afternoon. Bring paper, a pencil, and a green crayon or marker. Stand several big steps away from a shrub. Do not reach into it. Look for five green things you can see from where you stand: leaves, stems, vines, grass, a flower bud, or something else that matches the shrub. Draw the shrub. Add the green things you found. Then circle the place where a small green snake could hide best. This activity is about noticing camouflage. Do not search for a real snake, poke into leaves, move branches, or reach under shrubs. Then answer these questions: Which green thing was easiest to see? Which was hardest to see? Where could Grenda hide safely? What animals might hunt a small snake? Why should people leave a snake alone? What would you do if you saw a snake outside? Grandmaโ€™s reminder: โ€œLook with your eyes. Grenda already knows where she is.โ€
